Where The White Lotus Season 3 Was Filmed
Koh Samui for the resort and the monastery, Phuket for the fight and the yacht, Bangkok's Mandarin Oriental. The map, and the places that are folklore.
Season three aired from 16 February to 6 April 2025. HBO had announced Thailand in March 2023, and principal photography ran from February to August 2024 across Koh Samui, Phuket and Bangkok. The resort scenes came first: for February and March the Four Seasons on Samui was closed to everyone but cast and crew.

Was The White Lotus actually filmed in Thailand?

Yes. Every location in the season is in Thailand, and Thailand helped pay for it. IndieWire reported in October 2023 that the production stood to receive a rebate of about $4.4 million under the country’s film incentive, and Mike White had also scouted Japan, which has no such scheme. HBO worked with the Tourism Authority of Thailand on the shoot. The show was then edited on Kauai, in Hawaii.
Where was it filmed on Koh Samui?
The resort
The White Lotus is mostly the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, on Laem Yai Bay at the north-west tip of the island. The pool, the beach, the villas, the restaurant, the gym with the boxing ring and the spirit house are all there. The villas are real guest villas, not sets. Whether you can stay, and what it costs, has its own page.
Two other Samui hotels filled in. Anantara Bophut, about 25 minutes east by road, supplied the lobby, the driveway and entrance, the security post, the staff car park and the jewellery shop. Anantara Lawana in Chaweng supplied the bar, its Singing Bird Lounge, though how much screen time it got is disputed: its owner says episode one and nothing major, AFAR says several bar and restaurant scenes.
The monastery
Piper’s monastery and meditation centre is Wat Phu Khao Thong in Mae Nam, the temple with the dragon staircase. Condé Nast Traveler, AFAR and the location guides agree on it. A single guide adds the Dusit Dheva Cultural Centre for some temple-garden exteriors and the Cape Fahn Hotel, on an islet off Choeng Mon, for some meditation-centre shots. Neither has a second source.
There is a five-hour temple tour on this site, and it does not go to Wat Phu Khao Thong. Its stops are the Big Buddha at Wat Phra Yai, Wat Plai Laem, Wat Khunaram, the Hin Ta and Hin Yai rocks and Na Muang waterfall. None of those stops has a source putting it in the show. If you want the island’s temples for themselves rather than for the screen, it is a cheap and well-reviewed way to see them, and you can reach the monastery on your own another day.
The rest of Samui
- The snake scene was shot at the Samui Snake Farm.
- The Full Moon episode’s party was assembled from several places. The night market at Fisherman’s Village in Bophut, where stallholders worked as extras, and Choeng Mon Beach on Samui carried most of it. Haad Rin on Koh Phangan, home of the real Full Moon Party, appears briefly. Café del Mar on Phuket supplied the rest.
- Single-source claims: a beach barbecue and fire show at Am Samui Resort in Taling Ngam, and Greg’s house at Samujana Villas near Choeng Mon, with a villa on Phuket for other shots. Possible. Not confirmed.
Phuket
Phuket gave the season its fight and its yacht.
The Muay Thai night, when Kate, Laurie and Jaclyn go with Valentin, was filmed at Bangla Boxing Stadium in Patong. Not on Samui, and not in Bangkok, whatever you have read. Samui’s own stadiums give you the same ritual in a different ring; the Phetch Buncha stadium ticket is the better reviewed of the two we list. If you would rather learn to throw a kick than watch one, muaythaiclassbangkok.com covers training classes in the capital.
- Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas was Belinda’s wellness centre. The owner says she stayed in its Lotus Villa. The Ratliffs did not stay here; their villa is at the Four Seasons on Samui.
- Rosewood Phuket lent its Ta Khai restaurant for dinner scenes.
- Ya Nui Beach supplied arrival and relaxing shots, and Café del Mar in Kamala part of the party.
- Phuket Yacht Haven Marina is where Gary’s yacht was moored. A Phuket charter operator places the yacht sequence itself in Phang Nga Bay, which is likely but rests on that one source.
Bangkok
The Mandarin Oriental says it was the only Bangkok hotel chosen for filming. The lobby, the Bamboo Bar (under its real name) and a guest room appear. Elsewhere in the city AFAR places scenes at Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen with its giant Buddha, at Wat Pho and its pier, on the Chao Phraya with Wat Arun behind. Rick’s taxi ride on Yaowarat Road in Chinatown comes from one location guide only.
Ang Thong Marine Park
The marine park is on screen for one sequence. In episode one the new guests arrive by boat with the Ang Thong islands behind them, cut together with footage from Ya Nui on Phuket. Of all the places in this guide, it is the only one a Samui day trip can actually put you in, and it is the trip this site is built around.
What the boat day shows and what it cannot is set out separately, including the park’s closure from 1 November to mid-December.
The locations that are folklore
These turn up in lists and in tour descriptions. We found no source putting any of them on screen.
| Claimed location | What the record shows |
|---|---|
| Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai) | No source. One guide notes it does not appear. |
| Wat Plai Laem | No source. |
| Wat Phai Lom | No source. |
| Muay Thai “in Bangkok” or “on Samui” | The fight is Bangla Boxing Stadium, Patong, Phuket. |
| Four Seasons Bangkok | Not a location. The Mandarin Oriental was the only Bangkok hotel. |
| The yacht scenes in Ang Thong | Moored at Phuket Yacht Haven, reported in Phang Nga Bay. Andaman side. |
| A Ratliff boat day in Ang Thong | No source. |
| The hotel “in Ang Thong Marine Park” | The hotel’s address is the Ang Thong subdistrict of Samui. The park is about 20 km out to sea. |
Where is White Lotus season 4 filmed?
France. Skift reported in April 2026 that season four is at the Hôtel Martinez in Cannes and the Airelles Château de la Messardière, and that Four Seasons is out. Its partnership with HBO, announced in early 2025, ended with season three.
Getting between them
Samui, Phuket and Bangkok are a flight apart. Samui’s airport is owned and run by Bangkok Airways, and the Four Seasons is about 21 km from it. Phuket’s locations are a separate trip, not an outing from Samui; Phuket or Koh Samui helps if you have time for only one. For a Samui stay built around the show’s island locations, see how many days Koh Samui needs, or go back to the White Lotus Thailand homepage.
Scene attributions come from Condé Nast Traveler, AFAR, the hotels’ own press material and the location guides; single-source claims are marked as such. Production dates from Collider, E! and Deadline as compiled on Wikipedia; the rebate from IndieWire. Checked October 2026.
